Despacito was a track from the year 2017 released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the single that became the most popular streamed song across the globe within the space of six months. It was a blend of reggaeton and pop music that attracted attention to Latin Music but also reggaeton. In Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two tracks that were mostly in the Spanish and in 2016 there were four. In the midst of Despacito's fame in 2017, there were 19 mostly Spanish songs that were included in the top 100. And in 2020 the number was 41. After Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, popular artists began to collaborate with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together on MIA (2018) as did Madonna and Maluma. Madonna joined forces with Maluma for Medellin, 2019 The year 2000 saw a number of reggaeton performers were lamenting its inclination towards mainstream. However, a younger generation, led by Rauw Alejandro, aimed to continue the evolution of reggaeton. It was often associated with electronic dance, as well as other types.
